Atheist

Florida'da 1986 yılı başında ortaya çıkan Atheist grubu müzik otoritelerince Brain-Metal olarak adlandırılmaktadır. Gerçekten gerek kullandıkları enstümanlarındaki yüksek teknikleri gerekse şarkı sözlerindeki yüksek kalite onların bu isimi haketmesini sağlıyor. Kelly Schaefer (Gitar-Vokal), Steve Flynn (Bateri), Rand Burket (Gitar) ve Roger Patterson (Bas gitar)'dan oluşan bu gerçekten teknik grup 1989 yılında "Piece Of Time" adındaki ilk albümü çıkardılar. Bu adamlar her zaman kendi stillerini yaratmışlardır . Gerçekten abartılmayacak kadar kaliteli metal müzik yapıyorlardı [Sanırım Metal Star dergisiydi bir kritik görmüştüm yazar Atheist'i tanımlayacak en iyi stil Death-Jazz demekteydi . Bana görede Death-Metal'in Dream Theater'i seviyesinde bütün elemanları üst kalitedeydi,yaptıkları müzik biraz fusion metal, biraz deneysel metal olarak ifade edilirse size grup hakkında daha iyi bir ipucu verebilir sanırım.

Yarattıkları stilin ardından onu takip eden aynı kaliteye sahip CYNIC, PESTILENCE ve GORGUTS ile devamlı turneler düzenlediler. Fakat Atheist asla hakettiği dikkatleri üstüne çekemedi. [Bana göre death-metal müzikte hep brutal vokal ve kaosu tercih eden Detroit,Chicago ve Florida gibi Amerikan Death Metalinin kalbinin attığı şehirlerdeki dinleyiciler Atheist'in şarkılarını, stilini algılayamadı hazmedemedi.

Tabi grubun yaşadığı en büyük talihsizliğinde bunda etkisi çok önemli. Üst düzeyde yetenekli, besteci olan bas gitaristleri Roger Petterson 1990 yılında Atheist'in CANDLEMASS ile beraber çıktığı Amerika turnesi sırasında trajik bir şekilde öldürüldü.Bu büyük kayıbı CYNIC grubunun eski basisti Ton Choy ile kapatmaya çalıştıktan sonra 1991 yılında "Unquestionable Presence" ve 1993 yılında "Elements" adlı iki albüm çıkardılar.

Ve ardından gruplarını dağıtmaya karar verdiler. [Bana göre çok büyük bir kayıp ] Bugun sadece vokalistleri Kelly Schaefer müziğin içinde . NEUROTICA adında kurduğu grup ile müzik yapmaya devam etmekte. Fakat halen Atheist'in hayranları için albümleri yeniden düzenlenip piyasaya sürülmekte .

Son söz olarak gerçekten üstün tekniği ile bence death-metal tarihinde çok önemli bir yere sahip olan Atheist grubunun bu kadar kısa süreç içinde bu kadar üst düzeyde çalışmalar yapıp ardından grubu dağıtma kararı almaları çok talihsiz bir karardır. Bu yazıyı yazarken Piece Of Time şarkısını dinliyorum bundan 14 sene önce yapılmış olan şarkı beni hala üst düzeyde gaza getirebiliyorsa bu ATHEIST ayrıcalığıdır ....
